A ZIM innovation network brings together several medium-sized companies and research institutions working on a shared technology theme. Funding initially covers the network management. From within the network, concrete development projects can then emerge, for which separate funding applications are submitted.

For companies this means: you do not develop alone, but pool know-how, effort and market access with the right partners. At the same time, a structured framework emerges for deriving eligible R&D projects and further funding routes from shared ideas. Below you will find the networks we manage.

Current status

Since 7 July 2026, ZIM has been under a temporary freeze on new applications and project outlines, including new innovation networks. Applications with international partners under open bilateral or multilateral calls are exempt. Resumption will be decided in light of the 2027 federal budget; the aim is early 2027.

Ongoing and approved projects are not affected. Joining an existing network may still be possible, provided the network is accepting partners. New network initiatives can already be prepared so that they can be submitted early once applications reopen.

How a ZIM network works

A network runs in two phases and is coordinated by a neutral management institution that pursues no commercial interests of its own within the network.

Phase 1nationally up to 12 months internationally up to 18 monthsTechnological concept, roadmap, finding partners and preparing the first R&D applications
Phase 2up to 36 monthsSubmitting and implementing research and development applications, ongoing network management

Funding for the network management is structured degressively. Depending on the funding phase, up to 90 per cent, 70 per cent and 50 per cent of eligible costs can be covered.

What is funded

Total funding, national networkup to 490,000 euros
Total funding, international networkup to 600,000 euros
Phase 1, nationalup to 210,000 euros
Phase 1, internationalup to 260,000 euros

What participation costs

Your own contribution rises over the course of the project because the funding rate falls from 90 to 50 per cent.

What Ignite Group takes on in the network

We take on the network management as a neutral institution and coordinate the collaboration between companies, research partners and other stakeholders. In concrete terms this means:

Set-up and organisation

We structure the network, moderate coordination and ensure that shared themes turn into concrete development approaches.

Active partner search

We identify suitable companies, research institutions and other relevant partners and approach them directly.

Application work

From the technological roadmap we derive concrete R&D projects, assess their eligibility and prepare the appropriate applications.

Access to further programmes

From within the network we also assess complementary funding routes, such as programmes like kmu-innovativ, the Forschungszulage, European instruments or other suitable funding options.
