Selection of funding programs:

EIC Accelerator

The EIC Accelerator focuses on high-risk, high-impact innovations with the potential to create new markets or fundamentally change existing markets.

Grants from the EIC Accelerator can amount to:

  • € 2,5 million (70%) – duration: 12-24 months;
  • Equity: € 500.000 tot € 15 million – aimed at an equity interest between 10% and 25%.

Crédit d’Impôt Recherche (CIR)

 

The Crédit d’Impôt Recherche (CIR) is intended to encourage companies to participate in research and development (R&D) activities. The CIR rate varies depending on the geographical location of the company.

  • Personnel expenses
  • Operating expenses
  • Costs in connection with the registration of patents and intellectual property
  • Costs in connection with with the technical monitoring
  • Depreciation costs on real estate and buildings
  • Work assigned to subcontractors assigned to subcontractors
  • Patents
  • Costs for technology monitoring (max. 60.000€/year)
  • Textile and clothing sector: Expenditure on creation of new collections

 

Funding rate:

  • Up to € 100 million: per company 30%
  • From € 100 million: 5%
  • Funding is provided for 50% of personnel costs and for operating expenses 75% of depreciation and amortization
  • Contract research (max. 12 million €)

 

Application procedure:

  • Annual application
  • Three forms (statement of expenditure, information on the R&D activities, incurred contract research) to the DGFiP (Directorate General for Public Finances) + automatic
    transmission to MESRI (Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation)

 

Crédit d’impôt innovation (CII)

The Crédit d’impôt innovation is an extension of the CIR that provides funding for expenses incurred in SMEs until December 31, 2024. These expenses are related to the prototyping of a new product. The tax credit rate is 30% and is determined per financial year.

 

Crédit d’impôt Collaboration de recherche (CICo)

CICo was introduced in 2022 as a tax credit for research collaborations to encourage companies to carry out research and development work as part of research collaborations. This only includes costs that have not already been claimed via the CIR. For SMEs, the tax credit amounts to 50% of the eligible expenses (maximum 6 million euros). For large companies it is 40%.

 

Jeune enterprise innovante (JEI)

Companies that are less than 8 years old and carry out research and development activities have the option of obtaining “Jeune enter-prise innovante” status. With this status, these companies benefit from tax advantages in the form of exemptions for young companies. It aims to promote the creation of small and medium-sized enterprises that carry out research work. The company must be an SME, expenditure on research and development have to be at least 15% of total operating costs and the company can not be older than eight years.
The tax benefits include the following items:

  • Tax relief in the form of an exemption from income tax as well as an exemption from the territorial economic contribution (CET)
  • Exemptions from employer contributions

 

Diagnostic Europe

Diagnostic Europe is not a grant as such, but is nevertheless important for consulting companies with a focus on EU funding programs such as the EIC Accelerator. It serves as support for the preparation and submission of the application by a grant consultant and is aimed at innovative French SMEs with strong growth potential and international orientation. Diagnostic Europe can be provided by a consulting company that is a member of l’Association des Conseils en Innovation (ACI) and has entered into a partnership with bpifrance. The applicant is reimbursed 50% of a maximum of €20,000 for consultancy services by bpifrance.
